FAQs about hotels in Beijing

From Chinese Dynasties to Cultural Dynamics

A world-renowned gem, sprawling Beijing has magnificent monuments and peaceful parks. At its heart is the world’s largest square - Tiananmen, surrounded by important museums and the amazing Forbidden City. This 15th-century, walled complex of palaces neighbours Jingshan Park and Beihai Park with its imperial garden.

Opposite Tiananmen Square is the ultra-modern National Centre for Perfoming Arts, a beacon of the city’s culture so impressively displayed at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the Bird’s Nest Stadium.

To its east is the UNESCO World-Heritage listed Summer Palace, a lakeside retreat of emperors, while also UNESCO listed is the grand Temple of Heaven in Chongwen district, where remnants of Ming dynasty city walls are visible. Nearby are several hutongs, narrow alleys whose traditional architecture contrasts with wider, modern roads including Beijing Financial Street, the city's business area.

The most popular Beijing shopping street is Wangfujing, and other must-see sights include the giant pandas at Beijing Zoo and the Great Wall of China, an easy day trip from Beijing.

As you would expect from the capital of the world’s most populous country, there are a good number of 5-star hotels in Beijing on Booking.com, mainly in the Dongcheng and Chaoyang districts. There are also several hotels near Beijing Capital Airport in the north-east.

Stunning Architecture and World Heritage sites all well-...

Stunning Architecture and World Heritage sites all well-managed for visitors, such as shuttles, tickets, toilets and no-smoking policy. A major drawback that this city should improve is the smoking areas. People can smoke freely on the streets, which negatively affects those with respiratory problems and children. This makes our city walks less enjoyable. In addition, many locals tend to spit on the streets, which is another issue that should be addressed.

An amazing city - probably doesn't need more than a 5 day trip. A day-long excursion to the Great Wall of China is a must (hire a driver rather than spending 2 hours on a bus) and get there early to beat the queues for the chairlift up and toboggan down. Starting early is important most days as there are SO many tourists (mostly Chinese) at all the major sights. If you're there longer - consider going to a hot springs (onsen) and choose one that the locals use (we went to one in the Fengtai area) and taking a day trip to another city (we took the high speed train to Tianjin which was fun). The Temple of Heaven was better than the Summer Palace (IMHO) and Beijing Zoo was dismal - only go if you absolutely MUST see the pandas. Get a good VPN before you travel and stay connected to this to be able to use Instagram and WhatsApp. Set up AliPay with your payment details before you go - we didn't use cash once in a week and AliPay lets you book taxis, pay for the metro, pay in shops and pay individuals directly. It's essential. Consider getting WeChat too - people in China use this instead of Whatsapp. Carry your passport with you at all times - you'll need it everywhere - including spot checks in metro stations etc. Have a great trip!

Every traveler should definitely download the Alipay app in advance, which includes English translation. The app is the easiest way to pay, take the subway, order a taxi, or rent a bike. The first steps are a bit difficult, but once you get it up and running, it makes traveling in Beijing incredibly easy. In many cases, this is the only way to pay, cash is extremely rare. Your passport is requested at almost every attraction and must be scanned, often even on the way out. It's not worth going anywhere without it. They speak English in hotels, but in restaurants, often not anymore. Most taxi drivers, vendors, and waiters communicate with a translation program, which works quite well.

Its such a great city for a holiday.

Its such a great city for a holiday. So affordable when it comes to food znd taxis. I was blown away by the size of the place. Loved learning about the history of the place. Such a strong civilization. The Temples are so beautiful. The drum tower had amazing views znd we really enjoyed the drum playing which happens several times a day. The food was so delicious and enjoyed the various dumplings, soupy noodles thick and thin. Overall its a great city and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone who is interested in history, cultural, good good znd beautiful scenery.

A bustling mega city!

A bustling mega city! Impressed by the almost total use of electric vehicles. Clean atmosphere. Too many security checks for the major touristic attractions but still they are great confidence and security builders.

The city is amazing and the people is very nice and friendly. I wouldn't recommend to go to the touristic places, because they are too crowded. But there's a lot to do, specially if you like arts.

Very good location, walking distance to Sanlitun shopping area. Rooms are cozy and clean, staffs are helpful and friendly. The app Stey as a smart room controller was great. I took a taxi to Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) in the early morning, it took around 35-40 minutes, I think it's quite reasonable time in such a big city Beijing. So if you want to find a hotel with reasonable price, good location and comfortable room, Stey is a good choice.

Jen Beijing is one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at. Honestly, I don’t know why it’s rated 4 stars, it is certainly worthy of 5! Service is exceptional, rooms are spacious, spotless and super comfy, and the facilities… wow. The gym alone could put half the fitness clubs back home to shame. Next time I’m in China, I’m booking an extra day just to enjoy the hotel instead of sightseeing (yes, it’s that good). Highly recommend — would 100% stay again!

Staff very friendly and always ready with advice. This is my preferred part of Beijing as it is near Gulou to the west and Sanlitun to the east and Wangfujing to the south and Lama Temple to the north and it's in the hutong district so you get a taste of old Beijing. Can get pretty much anywhere by changing from the subway line 5 and now the airport express runs all the way to Beixinqiao which in one stop or a ten minute walk from the hotel.

We traveled with my parents and one year old baby. Nothing was too difficult for the staff here: receiving our parcels, helping to refill baby bottles, washing our clothes: it felt like our Chinese home away from home. Nice and traditional style, very unique and different from the run-of-the-mill large hotel chains. Located within walking distance of Wangfujing, Forbidden City and other key Beijing sights.
