the whole place was wonderful. The historic Monastery buildings are beautiful, warm brick work and at grand scale. The gardens were splendid too, 3 m high clipped hornbeam. The Restaurant is i believe in the monastic refectory and is huge with timber ceiling and beams. High arched windows, leaded glasswork and tapestries give a very grand scene. My meal was excellent and measured up to the environment. I liked the modern study bed room i had for one person. this was in a new building on the site of lost original barns. The Nordic whiteness was softened by finely embossed lining paper. A coloured engraving on the wall gave a birds eye view of the extent of the original Monastery. All very excellent. By chance I found a working Windmill at Weelde. It is run by volunteers every Thursday evening and Sunday morning. It also has a beer club under the working grindstones ! This is of course a Belgium windmill.

Beautiful, comfortable hotel with a stylish, tasteful design, colourful in the lobby and hallway, cozy and calm in the rooms. Quiet in spite of being situated between the railway track and a parking lot, free parking from 6pm to 9am and on Sun- and holidays. Couldn’t enjoy the apparently comfortable deck furniture on the terrace in front of our room with top to bottom windows due to snowfall 🥶❄️😉. Tea and coffeemaker and fridge in the room, choice of beverages offered by the hotel in the lobby and room. Tastefully furnished and decorated breakfast room with the biggest choice of options I’ve ever had for breakfast in a European city 🤩😍. Very friendly staff. Easy check in check out. 10/10! Thank you very much. Highly recommended.

We didn't just stay in the place for the night.

We didn't just stay in the place for the night. We walked to Brussels to see the infamous statue of the peeing boy. We also looked at the guild buildings in the square, the chocolate shops. The chocolate museum disappointed us, it doesn't look like a museum. And we were lucky to get a table for two at Mimi's restaurant. There is not even a kilometer from our place for the night. A wonderful impression of the furniture, the arrangement, the design so to speak of the tablecloths and napkins even, and the dinner is prepared with love and served with a smile. The owner is very smart and a good manager of staff.

We went to a fantastic festival, the Goezot Festival, so we didn't see much of the city center this time. We have been to Oud Turnhout before, and it's a very pleasant place to be!

It's located on a busy road, and beyond that, there are some...

It's located on a busy road, and beyond that, there are some residential areas. There's no pleasant square or cozy terrace. There are some cafes and restaurants along the busy road, but no restaurant. There is a pizzeria, snack bar, and café (very average). As a tourist, you don't need to visit Oud Turnhout.

You don't have to come to Oud Turnhout for the village...

You don't have to come to Oud Turnhout for the village itself, but you do need to come to enjoy the beautiful surroundings for cycling and walking. Turnhout is not far away, and you can shop to your heart's content. There are plenty of restaurants nearby.
