The region around Sokolac is well worth a visit for authentic hospitality, great local produce, outoor pursuits and historic heritage. Sokolac is an excellent base for exploring the region. Spring-time, summer and winter are great time to visit for sunny days and cool evening/nights. The scenery is breathtaking with many sightseeing spots offering views to snow-capped mountains and rolling hills. Storks have returned and herds of wild horses roam the fields. Winter is picture-perfect in this part of the world, with good access to ski centres and plenty of small individual chalets for cosy winter getaways. Overall, it’s unspoiled, with just the right amount of facilities for a good mountain break.

An authentic high-altitude town, set on Romanija mointain plateau. Clean air, pleasant walks and a variety of sporting activities on offer in the local area, including sking, swimming, hiking, biking and mountain climbing. The food is prepared fresh with simple, local meat, veg and dairy; Romanija roast lamb, potatoes and grilled vegetables is well known throughout the region. Sokolac area history steeps back to iron-age, including several pre-historic necropolis sites in the vicinity. A must-see is Mali Zejtinlik, the local Serbian military cemetery, a heartbreaking testament to the many lives lost in the 90s war.
