Oberon is a beautiful mountain town and gateway to the Janolan caves. It is a great walking town with lots of parks and museums, some excellent restaurants, and a highlight is the Mayfair Gardens, absolutely stunning, and the farm to table cafe is a must. Overall, a loverly weekend getaway.

Lovely countryside and the town had some very nice eating places - cafes, RSL, pub, pizza's, bakery. I liked that the coffee option in the morning opened from 4am in the morning. A couple of dinner options were still open at 9pm on a Sunday night.

Small town, with a few good cafes, people we spoke to were very friendly.
I thoroughly recommend the Chinese restaurant at the local RSL Club,
run by a very friendly Kenny, delicious food and great service!

The park and camping area beside the dam are worth a look...
The park and camping area beside the dam are worth a look for the unusual boulders in the water, and beside the lake. Art deco Malachi Gilmore Hall centre of town is a perfectly formed small beautiful building.

Weather was sunny warm and fantastic.
Weather was sunny warm and fantastic. Our time in town we met many friendly local folk and chatted some. Coming from a very big city it was a nice change and just let yourself go with where you are and dont bring home up with you. Air is fresh and no traffic.

A town common park with nice trees and full of coulourful history of local characters-beautiful tree lined streets-a dam and history-a high view golf course-and best pide in the main street Turkish restaurant .
Nearby Mayfield gardens are impressive and expansive but expensive.

Nice old hotel in the centre of town - close to everything - with solid wooden banisters on the stairs. Very clean and very good bathroom facilities. Friendly & helpful staff. A spacious upstairs dining room for guests with access to fridge, cups, plates & cutlery, a microwave, hot water, sink, iron & ironing table & even a washing machine. Lots of oil heaters, electric blankets and fireplaces would make it a very cosy place in cooler weather.

It was our first stay at the Motel, and I did not expect it to be so good for the money paid. The Big Trout Motel turned out to be an EXCELLENT place to stay in Oberon area in terms of everything what was important for us, including Reception open hours, communication, parking availability, cleanliness, fridge, tea and coffee facilities, Internet connection, TV and view in the window. Will definitely stay there again next time. Thank you!! :)

Small quiet park close enough to everything in town to walk to. Town has an IGA, The Royal Hotel, great for a meal and coldy and try DJ's coffee and B&E roll for breakie.
The deluxe king cabin was well cleaned, came with a Super comfortable bed and bedding, fantastic water pressure in the shower and a small kitchenette equipped well enough to meet the needs of 2.

Good size rooms. Comfortable beds.
Clean room and blankets.
Updated bathroom.
Great landscape view outside the balcony for sunsets and some autumn color of trees surrounding the area.
