FAQs about hotels in Hobart

Historic City Comes of Age

Historic Hobart, with its convict past, was often referred to as Australia’s neglected backwater. How times have changed as its temperate climate, quiet lifestyle and fabulous food and markets make it a revitalising tourist destination along the Derwent River in Tasmania.

The city’s significant maritime history begins at Constitution Dock, situated along the waterfront and facing the beautiful harbour. Nearby Battery Point and affluent Sandy Bay feature Georgian and Victorian architecture and the first settler’s cottages in Australia’s 2nd oldest city.

Escape to a memorable view of Hobart town from the snow-covered Mount Wellington or get close up and personal in the city’s quaint streets. Hobart comes alive during the colourful Salamanca Market, held every Saturday morning, where you can bag a bargain or sample mouth-watering produce such as local wines and cheeses.

Cascade Brewery and Cadbury’s Chocolates have tours of these Tasmanian icons or visit Wrest Point Casino, a popular event and entertainment centre.

The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December and Tulip Festival in the Royal Botanical Gardens swells the population in this small capital city. Make sure you check Booking.com ahead of time for your colonial cottage, cosy B&B or waterfront apartment.

Hobart is a nice place to visit and a good location to see many of Tasmania's beautiful areas. Good food options were a little limited but we had a good time and look forward to coming back to Tasmania.

Absolutely Australia's most liveable city by far!

Absolutely Australia's most liveable city by far! So funky with music, entertainment, bars and pubs open much later than the Gold Coast which closes at 8pm! With the university ss part of the CBD now the small food pop ups were everywhere offering amazing international cuisine Shops are still buzzing at closing time. This city is electric with energy!

People, shops, cafes and locally made products in Hobart set a great vibe. North Hobart was buzzing on a Tuesday night with so many choices of restaurants and cuisines. The countryside with many wineries and local cheese in the Coal river region is a must visit so are the berry and fruit farms. Further east the river views and beaches were stunning along the coast.

Unbeatable location. Loved being in the Salamanca area with all the bars and restaurants. Easily accessible to different parts of Hobart. The room was surprisingly soundproof and very comfortable. The bed and pillows were a luxury. Loved the deep soak bath and heated floors. The hotel staff were friendly and welcoming and allowed us to store bags on early arrival and late departure for the airport. Would not hesitate to come back and stay here again.

The location was fantastic, it was nice and close to the waterfront (hence the name) so close to Salamanca Wharf and Constitution Dock. Easy transport from the airport as the bus stop for the Sky Bus is about 50 meters from the hotel entrance. Plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby and everything is within easy walking distance. A great spot to stay if you're visiting Hobart.

The apartment was very clean and tastefully decorated. There was everything you needed for your stay and the little extras made a difference. The location was excellent with a 5 minute walk to the market, waterfront and cbd. We would definitely recommend staying here when visiting Hobart. Communication from Carol was excellent.

The Astor Hotel is a fabulous place to stay in Hobart. Great location and olde world charm. The hosts, Neil and Tilly, were wonderful, greeting me like an old friend. Facilities were excellent. Close to the Waterfront and Salamanca Square.
