This place is a hidden treasure!! We wanted a relaxing weekend getaway in the bush and it ticked all the boxes. It’s peaceful, tranquil and has an all round homely and relaxing feel! Perfect for families, our 3 year old didn’t want to leave! The staff are all so helpful and friendly and the food at the cafe is great too. We also did a pottery class so we can have a keepsake from our stay :) we will definitely visit again and cannot rate our stay enough. Such a wonderful family run business, thank you for sharing your beautiful space with us!

We were in Coonabarabran for the Coonabarabran Cup race meeting over the October 26th & 27th weekend. There was a hive of activity over the weekend in all the Hotels and the bowling club. Plenty of food options. A nice town to visit and stay.

Ideal place to have an overnight stay after driving for max.

Ideal place to have an overnight stay after driving for max. 10 hours including regular breaks. Good range of takeaway food places and the local Woolworths supermarket. Very easy to get around Coonabarabran with the highway being the main street.

It has an excellent Chinese restaurant.

It has an excellent Chinese restaurant. The Siding Springs Observatory was fascinating. The Warrumbungle Nation Park is lovely. Star gazing at the motel we stayed at was amazing. It was a classic example of how so many little towns in Australia have so much to offer when you dig below the surface.

I was off season so with clouds and some rain everything (...

I was off season so with clouds and some rain everything (star gazing) was cancelled just hour before they commenced. There is nothing else to do here, 6hrs to turn around and go home. The landscape is the same as the rest of country NSW, nothing special to see here. No activities, no nice places to dine or breakfast. You can see clear sky's and stars from almost any country town or camp off the populated areas. The Sydney Observatory has a better experience come rain or shine. Nothing special, actually very boring and disappointing. Save yourself a long road trip and avoid unless it's clear and you happen to be passing through.

The town is lovely and surprisingly vibrant.

The town is lovely and surprisingly vibrant. Lots of interesting murals, some large and some small, and the fossil museums in the visitor centre and at Crystal Kingdom were really interesting. The drawcards are the nearby Telescope Observatories, the Warrumbungle National Park and the Pillaga Forest.

This place is very basic but excellent for a family with...

This place is very basic but excellent for a family with children to get in touch with nature . Plenty of room to play and explore. Beautiful wildlife numerous birds and kangaroos. Lovely pool with slide for the little ones. Supermarket is a 8 minute drive away as you will need to do your own cooking .

The motel is very close to the town Coonabarabran and a short drive away from Warrumbungle National Park for hiking. At night, we could just walk out from our room for stargazing. The Milky Way could be seen so clearly with our naked eyes. We also spotted some shooting stars. The staff who are managing the property are very helpful and friendly. Thank you for making our stay very pleasant and enjoyable.

We always enjoy our stays at the Wagon Wheel Motel when travelling through Coonabarabran, we know that everything will always be ok with our room after a long journey North or South. The rooms and beds are comfortable, the service is always good, the shower is always welcome and we are never disappointed with our stay here. We actually look forward to arriving here.

The rooms were large and the beds very comfortable. it was immaculately clean. It was positioned easy walking distance to town. The food at the hotel restaurant was great and it is close to an excellent Chinese restaurant.
