The country hospitality of the people was great wherever we went! The varied architecture is amazing. The exhibition at the Art Gallery brought us to Bendigo but the other galleries and shops in the street were wonderful too. Had a great dinner at the Rifle Brigade Hotel near where we were staying at the Bendigo Oval Motel. Lunch next day was at Wholefoods Kitchen - delicious and healthy. Bendigo is not too far from Melbourne (regular trains) and has some beautiful buildings, gardens, the cathedral, Ulumbarra Theatre, the Capitol Theatre and the art gallery. I find Bendigo to be a friendly city to visit. Easy to get around the CBD. On this trip, we attended a car show at the show grounds. A great facility. A Sunday market was also being run. During our stay, we visited two shopping centres and purchased items that we cant get in our home town. Fuel price was very good, Apco and Burg fuel. Had lunch at Burg, staff very friendly and food specials were great. Alder Street fish and chips was that good, we had tea from there twice. Warm and cosy. Has a fully equiped modern kitchen, although we didn’t use it much. Close enough to walk into the centre of Bendigo to experience the history, architecture, art and great dining options. We also visited the local Brougham Arms hotel which does an excellent dinner. Everything that you needed had been provided by the owner. The beds were very comfortable and the house was very quiet. The outside deck area was the perfect place for breakfast. Having Percy and Percy cafe across the road was fabulous and the Lake View Hotel around the corner on the main road was a bonus and we can also recommend the local pizza parlour.
