The hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming and really personalised our experience from pouring us tea during our check in process and being really thorough about the facilities in their guest house. If you want recommendations they are also happy to try their best even with the english language barrier to help out and make recommendations. Overall the guesthouse is extremely clean and good value for money. The location is great with a bus stop put the front to the aquarium and the station and main strip within Otaru within walking distance. I would 100% stay here again coming back to Otaru just to see Kimi and Kuna they are wonderful people

The 4 private outdoor Onsen (first come first serve) were lovely and peaceful. The kaiseki dinner and breakfast were delicious and filling. There are complimentary frozen snacks in the lounge area. Free shuttle bus service available upon request with the ryokan. We were fortunate to be added to the list last minute (the day before departure) from Jozankei to Sapporo, but would recommend contacting the Ryokan in advance to reserve. The public buses between Sapporo and Jozankei (e.g. 8J and 7J) can get quite crowded, which can make traveling with luggage challenging.

The staff were absolutely incredible; we had to have our bags shipped down to Osaka due to smaller stops in Tokyo and Mt Fuji (too short to be able to guarantee the bags would arrive on time) which is a crazy distance. The ladies at the Information Centre were able to explain the process for this and even drew us a map to get to the shuttle bus to the train station and encouraged us to take a jacket and do a practice walk the night before. The tour we booked was also fantastic, and the food and local beer was great too. The room was incredible; it was so affordable for the space you're given and relaxing in the onsen overlooking the ballpark was an unforgettable experience, they even have snacks and a bar! Everyone we came across was so lovely, even other people staying were interested to hear about our trip as it's not a common place to find foreigners.

Dinner and breakfast were amazing both French and Japanese. We are vegetarian so chef prepared special meals for us. The best rooms are in floors 3 and 4 where you have open view of the lake. We don’t recommend taking the deluxe rooms as there are only 2, and you might end up in the second floor with partial view of the lake.
