Hosted by Mama Julia and Kk Mothy, we had an incredible experience at shady homestay for two days. Arrived on Tuesday afternoon, Julia and Mothy picked us up at Waisai. Storm was raging but they prepared everything so our big bags were not wet. Even though waves were very high, Timothy mastered ocean and found our way through the waves. We were then welcomed by the rest of the family with a delicious tea time and snorkeled in front of the homestay, lost in the small satellite islands around Gam island. The place is peaceful, quiet, and extremely beautiful in the middle of nowhere in the Raja Ampat : a Lunar experience. On Wednesday, Timothy and Julia organized us a fabulous daytrip around Gam Island between Sawingrai village, light water, labyrinth mangroves, magical reefs, caves, view points, snorkelings, painted hands geopark famous site, hidden bays, beach walk, coconut… everything was perfect and made very friendly and warm welcoming by Julia, and very fun with Timothy’s talents to drive the boat as a sports car driver in tight ways and hard turnovers ! We left on Thursday after another little trip with Timothy for a batcave and snorkeling morning. We saw everything with them : lots of reef fishes and bigger fishes, manta, dolphins, blacktop sharks, turtles … and even the rarest and endemic Wobbegong shark. What made the experience different and fantastic is the kindness of this whole family working together and making everything seem effortless and great even though it could be hard work for them. Shady Homestay is THE PLACE TO BE for visiting Gam island with the fun experience on board with Timothy and the warm welcome and comfort of the delicious food provided by Julia and their family. This homestay on Besir island is ideally located near several interests spots in Raja Ampat. The place is calm, only two cabins on the water, connected to a village full of charm. The utilities are on the beach, near the owner's house. It's very clean and has everything required to answer basic needs. Regarding the rooms, mosquito net on the bed, fan, electricity at night, blankets, hammock, sunbed and basic furnitures. All the meals (included in the reservation) are served to your cabin, they vary and are prepared by an great cook! So everything is tasteful and good. No connection except if you get a SIM card on arrival at Sorong's airport but deconnection is great. It's easy to communicate with the owner who speaks well English (rare in Raja Ampat) and he tries his best for you to have the best stay possible. Him and his family are super nice and welcoming while respecting your privacy. I came with a friend and we stayed 3 full days, we had an amazing time there and we can only recommend this place. All the activities we've done through them were memorable, we had a lot of fun. Have a good holiday there!

We really loved staying at Nyanse homestay! Food is plentiful (3 main meals + snack time at 4:30pm), you will definitely not starve here and everything is delicious. Their overwater bungalows, located inside Gam’s particular mangroves, are spacious, clean, comfortable and equipped with hammocks to enjoy the best sunset. Bathroom and shower are shared but still very good. We highly recommend doing the tours they offer. Ferdinand, the homestay’s owner, knows the best snorkeling places and will be your guide in the water. We really enjoyed snorkeling with him and all the underwater life he showed us. Even one night he took a torch to explore the nightlife around the mangroves, we found so many creatures! You can also do snorkel at night if you are adventurous enough. The homestay is placed between to villages that you can visit to see the local life, I even played football with the kids and had so much fun. It is also possible to go see the Red Birds of Paradise, it’s less than a 30min walk that you do with a guide in the morning before sunrise. Just know that these birds are more active during a certain time of the year. Alvaro, Ferdinand’s son, can help at times with communication as he is the one that speaks fairly good English. All in all, staying at Nyanse was a beautiful local experience that we highly recommend. Thanks so much for such a amazing time!

What an amazing location ! Absolutely stunning. Solo traveler, wanting to discover Raja Ampat, and I am so glad I discovered Gam Bay bungalows, from Pre Covid times. Secluded. Stunning Nature. Water at the edge of your door. The quiet was remarkable, to be able to sit back and listen to the birds, the sounds of Raja Ampat, and in particular, Gam. A paradise lost, and a Heaven found. Thank you Aaron, Family and Friends and puppies.

It was the best homestay I’ve been in my month in raja ampat. They are professional and they thought of many importants détails to make your stay comfortable. They had healthy options for the meals. They have a great communication and answer your questions, need and boat trip organization very fast.

Staff, location, facilities all were excellent. Food is fresh and delicious. Would highly recommend. Staff go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and organise any activities you want. Lodge itself is beautiful with great design and views. Coral reef just outside rooms is amazing for snorkeling. Amazing place to stay in Raja Ampat
