The location is great; small island in lake Bunyonyi, perfect to disconnect for some days from the busy Kampala. There is not much to do around, but that fits perfect if what you are looking for is peace and quiet. The lodge has a private swimming deck to the lake- highly recommended to go for a swim there! And shoutout to the library they have- it made by day when I got there. They also provide with free Black Tea in case you fancy that as companion to the reading, appart from the great views. The profits from the lodge go back to the island communities, so we paid dinner with pleasure.

Cylia and all the staff were fantastic and made sure we didn't miss anything! We are two young women and we stayed at the Ruhija Gorilla Guest house for one night and then tracked with the gorillas the next day but we would have stayed longer! Our room was fantastic, spacious, clean and with two big comfortable beds. The dinner they cooked for us was great and Cylia is careful to fulfil your every wish. Before dinner we visited the village (an experience not to be missed) we met the local people and visited the school and the orphanage; all the people are extremely kind. The view from the patio is breathtaking, and the Villa is well equipped with everything you need. I truely enjoyed the atmosphere during our stay, as it feels as if you are on your own planet, as there is just you and the incredible beauty of the lake and its nature, as you overlook the whole scenery. Could have spend all day just sitting there and enjoy the beauty of it all. Pure joy.

It was stunning. We’re so happy we got the room with the balcony because it had such a beautiful view and we really enjoyed staying out there. Everyone there was lovely and helpful- when we got a flat tire, they found someone (affordable) to quickly fix it for us. And the food is incredible! We are vegetarians and we had lunch and dinner (and breakfast the following morning) and it was delicious and so memorable. Make sure to bring a flashlight, it’s dark at night! And you need to be able to walk up and down lots of steps.

The Makanga Hill Suites offer probably the nicest lodging in Kabale. The suites are based in a new and well-appointed house and are served by capable and friendly staff. Makanga Hill sits up above the hustle of downtown Kabale, with very nice grounds and rewarding views. One can pleasantly walk down across the golf course and into the City center in about 30 minutes; or you can hire the house (Benz!) SUV to drive you; and of course there is a lovely (and secure) carport if you are driving your own vehicle.
