It was my first time staying in a temple. The whole experience was excellent (meditation, morning ceremony and homa ceremony). The monks were very helpful. Everything was very clean. My stay was during winter and my room was heated, which made it comfortable. The food (dinner and breakfast) was great.

exceptional temple, the whole experience is uplifting from the room, the facilities with the onsen, the garden, the meals and the ceremonies the guest can attend, everything amazing. The best part is the evening meditation and the morning chanting plus the wisdom the head monk shared with us. You leave with something changed in your heart and mind, very positive.

An incredible experience, staying in a monastery and eating like monks for one day. The whole experience of going up the mountain on the train and cable car in Dec in the snow was magical. The monastery is stunning, monks welcoming and the room and food are completely authentic. We got up at 6am to listen to morning prayers which was quite mind blowing. We spent 3 hours in the cemetary at night, walking up to the shrine which was a highlight of our visit to Japan. It's really important to remember that this is not a hotel it is a real, operating monastery. In Dec it is freezing (minus 2 on the inside) but the bedrooms have heaters and we were very cosy at night. The dinner and breakfast are 100% Buddhist monk fodder. Buckle up and eat pickled seaweed for breakfast. You will have a great time if you go with it. Our family of four have told everyone about our time in the mountains, a once in a lifetime experience.

This temple is located away from the main road of Koyasan which gives it a very peaceful and quiet atmosphere. The staff was very accommodating regarding my physical disability. The morning prayer was an exceptional experience, and the breakfast after it was very delicious.

wonderful atmosphere in this spiritual village. Our room was exceptionally large, comfortable and both modern and traditional. It included a small zen garden and a beautiful hot bath. The top level Buddhist food was both plentiful and delicious. Wifi was good. Rooms were very clean. Keep in mind this is a traditional Japanese hotel and you have to remove shoes everywhere you go. The meditation session was short, but informative. The night tour was also interesting. The morning prayers were also moving.

This was a beautiful experience. The temple is gorgeous. The rooms were very clean. Everything I needed was there. Joining in the meditation and listening to the morning chanting was restful. It was in a great spot, close to the road but calm and peaceful inside. It was a short walk to Koyasan village and many of the attractions.

This place was hard to get to from Osaka but so worth it! The village is spectacular and this property offers dinner and breakfast so you can enjoy the surroundings and not worry about food. It is more traditional than other places you'd stay at, you get to experience sleeping on the floor and the food they serve is vegan.

Excellent authentic and comfy stay in Eko-in Temple at Koyasan village! Food was an amazing experience on our first days in Japan! We also attended to morning ceremonies which were interesting (we also got some pre-information about the Buddhist ways with a Okunoin night tour).

Authentic temple stay experience. Awesome temple - like a large Japanese villa. Simple rooms which were well worn but comfy beds. You're here for the experience though - food, onsen and morning prayer ceremony all fantastic opportunities to try something new for Westerners. We were a family with teens and all loved it!
