B&Bs in Hilo

We can highly recommend the Orchid Tree B&B. It has a great location, close to the city center and the airport. The rooms are tastefully decorated and cozy. The exceptionally friendly landlord is always available to provide helpful tips on dining and sightseeing. The garden is a well-maintained tropical paradise, and breakfast on the terrace is simply heavenly. Everything is wonderful and invites you to stay longer. Definitely worth a visit! We felt right at home at the B&B thanks to our wonderfull hosts Brian and Tomomi. They were super helpfull and good-spirited. Breakfast was great and delicious, with plant-based options as well. Beautifull view of the ocean! Perfectly nice room and bed as well. Beach towels, equipment and day snacks were a nice bonus too! Warm contact and communication with owners as well.

Amazing place run by lovely people. Owners have poured their heart and soul into this property. So much attention to detail. So spacious; loved all the timber and the handcrafting and decorating, the koi fishpond under the entry floor; each room has a different theme. Super comfy bed, and huge bathroom. Massive kitchen and loungeroom on each floor, with everything you need in a kitchen. They even have some snorkel gear you can borrow, which we did. Stunning views from the lanai and lounge area, and it's an easy drive from the town. I highly recommend this place and I would come back again. It really is 10/10.

It was an excellent room. We had the king with private bathroom. Small problem getting the tv working but it was settled quickly. The staff was very helpful. Has a full kitchen and dining area that we did not know about that was a big plus. We would be happy to stay there again next time.

We chose this place for our family trip to the Big Island after a lot of online research — and it didn’t disappoint. As someone who also runs two hotels in Los Angeles, I’d like to share a few thoughts from a fellow hospitality professional: Fantastic location! Right in the heart of Hilo’s main commercial street. The farmers market is next door, with fresh fruits and veggies, and on weekends, a fun local market with Hawaii-themed goods. Smooth contactless check-in. I booked through Booking.com, and the host messaged me before arrival with the front gate code, room number, room code, and all the check-in details — very efficient. However, guests unfamiliar with this process might feel confused upon arrival if they don’t realize the info is in their inbox or messages. Charming old two-story building. The exterior is nice, with a gravel parking lot behind the property. But what really stood out was the interior design — full of warmth, color, and personality. The wall decor, vintage photos, and little touches give the whole place a cozy, homey vibe. There’s a tiny on-site restaurant with just two tables on the ground floor, serving special breakfast items. Reviews say it’s amazing and must be booked in advance. I stayed for two nights and only saw it open once — clearly a local favorite! Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to try it due to our tight travel schedule. Room 5 was enormous! We booked a queen room, but the beds were so spacious they felt like kings. The linens were top-quality — clean, soft, and super comfortable. Thoughtful details like bedside outlets with USB ports made things very convenient. Large bathroom with separate shower area, soft fluffy towels, and excellent-quality toiletries — clearly chosen with care. These kinds of details speak volumes about the host’s hospitality. The room included local Hawaiian coffee — a great touch! One small suggestion: consider providing reusable cutlery for guests who may be staying longer or prefer dining

Lovely peaceful location near the coast, super quiet. Great amenities, the laundry room of stuff to borrow was great - the cool box was really useful on day trips! Andy was super friendly and provided us tips on local spots to visit and gave us detailed directions and checking in instructions
