Staff was incredibly friendly. Appartement really spacious for Japanese standards, modern, clean, well equipped. Location not very near to train station, but easy (and affordable!) to catch a taxi at the train station. We came by car; free parking available. Quiet location, large supermarket nearby. Matsumoto is a great travellers' hub for day trips nearby.

Amazing guesthouse in the mountains. We had the best time at Raicho onsen inn. The stuff was super nice and helpful. The room was nice and you would find everything you need. There are three onsen that you can reserve for private use. Everything was super clean and the outdoor onsen was a very special experience. One could hike directly from the guesthouse or take a bus from the bus stop nearby. We came with public transport from Tokyo and it was totally doable. Worth the way! We bought some food at Matsumoto and cooked everyday in the shared kitchen. There was even some food there that you could buy to make a meal.

Shie and her husband welcomed us with such heart and care, it was like we were part of the family. For those who want a truly japanese experience, go there. Plus, Shie speaks english fluently so you can exchange easily with her and she will give you tips and recommandations all over the region.

Excellent location for exploring the region and such a peaceful location. The breakfast and dinner were delicious. Hospitality was excellent. The owners were so friendly and made our stay really enjoyable. They were also very helpful with tips on planning our excursions. We really enjoyed trying the 3 onsen baths. Overall a great experience.

Tomoshibi was one of our favourite places to stay in one month Japan. There is not much to do in Sawando onsen but it is a perfect place to stay after spending the day in Kamikochi. Run by an old couple, it is a traditional style guesthouse. Tatami rooms, shared bathrooms and an onsen. If you stay, definitely order dinner as well. She made us a very tasty sukiyaki, which we were served outside in front of the guesthouse.
