I recently had the pleasure of staying at Magnolia Cottage, and it was an absolutely delightful experience. The breakfast each morning was exceptional—fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. It was the perfect way to start each day! Ann, the host, went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. She was incredibly accommodating and always available to assist with anything we needed. Honestly, we couldn't have asked for a better experience. I highly recommend Magnolia Cottage for anyone looking for a private relaxing and welcoming getaway! Will definitely be my go-to when I'm in the area!

On our way from Arthur's Pass to Aoraki,we decided to spend a night in Temuka. In this little town,in this inconspicuous appartment, you definitely would't expect so much cosiness this place is filled with! We also appreciated coffee capsules and fresh milk in the fridge - made our day!

We really liked how clean and comfortable the rooms were. The motel was quiet and in a convenient spot, close to the town centre. The owners were very friendly and helpful, which made our stay really enjoyable.

When we first arrived we were greeted with the warmest and loveliest people. Straight away we had a chuckle and they were so helpful. Our room was perfect as it was on the bottom floor and it was first room which made it easy and accessible for our baby gear. Ashbury is located in the perfect spot and is walking distance from Pak n Save, liquor store, Maccas, KFC and other food options. It’s a short drive to the main city centre and Caroline bay. It was super comfy and warm for our baby girl. She slept really well hopefully she didn’t cry too loud for our neighbours but they didn’t seemed bothered when they met her in the morning. We will definitely be back for sure!

A small town we stayed overnight only.
A small town we stayed overnight only. Had a beer at the local pub and dinner at the excellent Austin92 restaurant in the evening. Close to the larger centre Oamaru which we spent some time in. The quiet environment in our excellent accommodation made for a relaxing stay towards the end of a busy trip. Didn't see much of Temuka but thoroughly enjoyed the bits we did.

Timaru is a delightful town set in mid Canterbury, and is strategically located so one can enjoy day trips inland. The town itself is prosperous. Caroline Bay is a delight, and has been developed to be a destination for families in particular. There are a range of eateries to cater for different tastes and pockets! An interesting range of cultural attractions worth viewing too.

We stayed in Temuka because the accommodation was cheaper than in Timaru or Geraldine. It is a central location, but there is not much to do while you are there. We walked the main street and found a small antique shop. There was a popular restaurant. We did not book early enough, so we had to travel to Timaru for dinner.

A pleasant town to visit with good restaurants and boutique shops.
The Thai Sukhothai restaurant is one of the best in New Zealand.
Bustling port exporting logs, cement and seafood.
Good beaches are a runaway hit with young families.

Temuka's great main village street is typical of small -town NZ with Victorian and Edwardian frontages above street verandas . Temuka began its European life as "Wallingford" , a town surveyed in 1863 by Samuel Hewlings one of the first Eurpeans to settle in this area. Also on the main road into town on HWY One at 199 King Street are two magnificent giant Redwood trees planted in 1886 and still standing tall and strong ...Welcome to Temuka.

Timaru is big enough to have a variety of shopping and things to do, especially if you are a first-time visitor. I go there occasionally for my work, but I enjoy walking around the central business area to look at the old buildings and long established businesses. There is a somewhat "comfortable/established" air about the place, that would have me happily relocating to live and work there permanently if my circumstances were different. The natural features of the countryside, wild eastern beaches and mountain foothills are all available with a hour or so by car. Worth exploring!
