Stewart Island's iconic South Sea Hotel is located on the foreshore, in the centre of town. It is 2 minutes’ walk from the ferry and airline terminals.

You don't need to spend money on tours if you don't have it (I never do), as there are plenty of beautiful walks to discover for yourself. Ulva Island is a must, though!!! The bird life is amazing, and even though at home we have plenty of kereru, piwakawaka, bellbirds, the song and sight of these guys over there is next level. Kereru, walking or sitting on the ground, is not seen in cities. Do take sandfly spray as these wee guys are also very friendly 😉

The township of Oban is the place to find out most info, access e-bikes and get details of walks, kiwis, trips to places such as Ulva Island. It’s the central township for the island. Glad it has a four square, friendly people at the Doc site. Butterfield Bay is gorgeous.

Great place. I would have liked more time to do more walks.
Great place. I would have liked more time to do more walks. We stayed 2 nights - just enough to do a kiwi experience and visit Ulva Island.
We were unlucky with no
Kiwi sightings. But the longer walks would have green goid to do if we had more time.
