A fire had already been prepared for lighting in the energy efficient fireplace. That set the stage for a cozy evening. A wide selection of breakfast supplies, food and drink were available for us.Everything a traveller might need was thought of, including phone chargers and laundry facilities. It was like a home away from home.
Featuring a patio with mountain views, a garden and a tennis court, B&B on Bealey can be found in Hokitika, close to Hokitika Beach and 39 km from Greymouth Railway Station.

Everything was perfect. It's a cute little apartment that's really private with an amazing view. Really quiet and perfect to read and relax! I found the property better than the pictures.

Nice little seaside town .
Nice little seaside town . We stayed at two different locations a week apart and with different weather/ rain and sun. Wish we’d had a few days to see the glow worms in their natural state and do a few walks but we were really close to the airport and close to the route towards going through to Arthur’s Pass. We cooked our own food at our accomodation so we bought food from local supermarkets before heading to more remote areas.

The suspension bridge over the Hokitika gorge hike was most impressive. While we didn’t make it all the way down to the 2nd bridge (which was apparently closed for repairs) we were happy with the opportunity to still across the first bridge and get some great pics.
The Tree Top walk was rather —meh— not sure it was worth the cost of admission; my sister was seriously freaked out by the heights of the walkway so she didn’t enjoy it too much. However, the cafe there is quite good!

The area is beautiful, the beach and the lake. There is free camping at the lake by the way. I would do that next time. I ate at the Mahinapua Hotel however most of the time the kitchen is closed. What I had was basic. I would recommend Fat Pippi's pizza for whitebait fritters. That would be my next choice. I would avoid the Mahinapua Hotel on my next visit.

The word "Retreat" in the title gave me the expectation of luxurious accomodation with fully contained rooms, spas etc. None of that, which was disappointing. A small private holiday park would cover it better.

We had a larger group of 4 families of different sizes, the villa and cabin options fitted with our agenda and stay perfectly. We did a lot of driving and exploring during the day and cooked at home / played games in the evening. It was a lot of fun.
