Location was close to grocery store but not beaches.
Bonus to have coffee maker and fridge in room and access to ice.

Very nice and clean appartment. We stayed here for 2 nights to take some relaxing time during our roundtrip in Costa Rica.
We enjoyed the pool at the end of the day after coming back from the beach.

They cleaned every single day during my stay there
We arrived earlier and they provided access to my room before the check in and I loved it,
Personal advised where to go, where we can find great places to enjoy and suggestions were amazing.

Had an excellent stay at Pipehouse over Christmas with the family. Felipe welcomed us with open arms to his beautiful hostel with a lush garden, a big lounge area and hammocks. We even got to see monkeys jumping from branch to branch in the big tree overlooking the lounge. The hostel is located right by the sea and access to the beach couldn't be better. Additionally, we all found the hostel clean, well maintained and with a very friendly staff. The included breakfast was also much appreciated. Highly recommend for both singles, couples and families.

Beach location is pretty much right outside your door, A path through the restaurant takes you right to the beach.
The room had amazing water pressure, perfect for getting all the sand off ya when you're ready to lay down for the night.
The staff was exceptional! I can't find the words to describe how amazing the staff at this hotel. From the owners to the staff, every single one of them went above and beyond to help my brother and I.
Definitely coming back, hasta luego!

Tamarindo is amazing.
Tamarindo is amazing. Villarreal is a small local town nearby. The construction and yard cleaning machines make any stay in these areas a bit noisy. Overlook the noise and commotion and crowds and the area is really fun.

Nice quiet beach town, with just enough to do.
Nice quiet beach town, with just enough to do. Good surf but inconsistant small waves in Palm Beach near our hotel when we were there. Crowded near the main town and surf break 1 mile away where waves are definately bigger. It's a strong beach break, so not great for beginners and quality was not always so consistant. Can be dangerous, no lifeguards.

Tamarindo is a nice place to visit if you want to relax on the beach for a few days. The beach is clean and there are a variety of other activities available in the area as well as respectably priced accommodation. You can make a visit as busy or as quiet as you like. Plenty of places to eat and drink.

Found a great place to eat on the road down to the beach - Barumis. Great service, great food, great coffee. The road is gravel/dirt, but my little Honda Civic was able to handle it fine (dry season!), just watch out for the dips and bumps. The beach was crowded due to the season (Christmas break) but people were relaxed and respectful and it seems like we all had the same idea - watch the incredible sunset over the ocean and enjoy the sand and water. All told, with the great people at my Drift Away hotel, a very enjoyable vacation!

Playa Grande is gorgeous wide and long sandy beach, very natural. There are spots for beginner and advanced surfers and is suitable also for families with kids. There is only one bar or buffet on the beach, but a beach club and few hotel restaurant are near by.

Town is just big enough that there are lots of shops, restaurants, and things to do. Gorgeous beach also. But small enough that you can walk everywhere. It's a good base for the northwest area but doing a day trip to a volcano or other sights is hours each way.

Playa Avellana is a beautiful beach and well-known to surfers. There is a lot of surfing there. So it's not recommend just for swimming or messing around in the water since it can be dangerous. No lifeguards.
It's a beautiful beach to visit and even spend the day - there were lots of local families there enjoying it - and surfers will love it.
The access roads are difficult as is parking. Probably not feasible if you don't have a 4x4.

I stayed at El Reinas in Playa Grande for 5 weeks and loved every minute. I didn't rent a car or golf cart. I walked 15 min. to soda and veggie stand once a week for essentials. I went to Tamarindo via walking south on the beach for 40 minutes and taking water taxi. If you aren't able to walk either rent a car or plan to call taxi. Taxi from PG to Tamarindo is $15usd.

Playa Avellana is a high quality surfer beach but low key for real surfers, while us folks not on boards could have fun watching along with swimming and walking. The fish and chips at Lota's was also outstanding, along with the mellow beachside vive.
